Athletic Development consists of three foundational pillars… Speed, Strength, and Explosiveness. These qualities are what every coach, regardless of sport, is looking for first. The second most important is consistency. Starting and stopping these pillars will only delay development and can lead to injury. In-season training is just as important as out-of-season training. In addition, these pillars should take priority over additional skill training. These are the foundations.

Speed: How fast can an object go from one point to another. This can be measured in most cases with a timing or tracking device, i.e., Laser, Stop watch.
Strength: How much weight can you move.
Explosiveness: How fast, far, or high can an object move. This can be measured with a tracking device, i.e., Laser, Vertec, Radar, tape measure, and VBT.
These qualities must be the focus for every athlete.
What does that look like for an athlete’s sport?
KPI’s for sport:
Basketball & Volleyball: Jump Height, Hit Harder, and first step quickness.
Baseball & Softball: Faster 60, 20,30, Throwing Speed, Bat Speed.
Football & Rugby: More Strength, faster 40 & 5-10-5, Higher vertical, longer Broad Jump.
Soccer: Faster 40, Faster 10 acceleration, higher vertical, longer broad jump.
Track and Field: Faster acceleration, Jumping higher, Jumping farther, and endurance.
Lacrosse: Strength for physicality, Faster 40, Faster 10 acceleration, higher vertical, longer broad jump.
